EXPLANATION:
On February 5th, the City Council adopted Ordinance 2013-2381 pertaining to City Boards, Commissions and Committees.
Section 16.09.010 of the Ordinance deals with "Alternate Members" and reads as follows:
In addition to regular appointments, the city council may appoint an alternate member or members to
any board, commission or committee. An applicant for appointment as an alternate member shall be
subject to the same application and interview procedures as are applicants for regular appointments.
Alternate members so appointed shall attend each meeting of the board, commission or committee to
which they are appointed, but shall participate in a meeting only in the event of the absence of the
regular member. At such time as a vacancy occurs on a board, commission or committee, an alternate
member is automatically eligible for appointment as a regular member, provided the alternate member
is in good standing (e.g., good attendance record).
It was requested that the Alternate Member Program for Boards and Commissions be placed on the agenda for
discussion.
