WHEREAS, lack of exercise, poor diet and tobacco use can lead to cancer, heart
disease, type 2 diabetes and lung disease, which will result in more than fifty percent
of all deaths in San Diego County; and
WHEREAS, the vision of a healthy, safe and thnving communities is the primary
concern of the County of San Diego; and
WHEREAS, the County of Sari Diego, Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA.)
prepared the Live Well, San Diego initiative to serve as the blueprint for improving
community health and quality of life over the next decade, and
WHEREAS, the City of National City is home to Olivewood Gardens and Learning
Center, charged ;with an important mission to connect and motivate students and
families from diverse backgrounds through organic gardening, environmental
stewardship, and nutrition education, empowering them to be healthy and active
citizens; and
WHEREAS, in 2012 the City of National City was recognized as San Diego County s
most walkable city by Wank San Diego, and
WHEREAS, in 2013, the City of National City supported the creation of Butterfly Park,
an ongoing effort to restore and expand access to outdoor space that is otherwise
considered a blight on the community. and
WHEREAS, the City of National City is committed to enhancing the quality of life
through it's Community Services Department, responsible for Aquatics/Swimming
Programs. Afterschool Programs, Sports and Fitness and Senior Services; and
WHEREAS, the City of National City is committed to improving accessibility for
bicyclists through construction of regional facilities such as the Bayshore Bikeway,
and expansion of National City's local bicycle network• consistent with the San Diego
Regional Bicycle Plan and National City Bicycle Master Plan; and
WHEREAS, the City of National City is committed to enhancing access to the bay
front and providing recreational opportunities through development of the Manna
District, Including quality of life facilities such as the proposed Aquatics Center
NOW, THEREFORE, BE 1T RESOLVED; I, Ron Morrison, Mayor of the City of
National City, by virtue of the authority vested In me by the City of National City,
hereunto set my hand and affix the official seal this 21u day of May, 2013 and
together with the City Council do hereby proclaim the week of May 21e, as.

I call upon all citizens In the City of National City, and civic organizations to recognize
the benefits that a healthy lifestyle pan make in their lives.
