ITEM TITLE: Resolution of the City Council of the City of National City authorizing the acceptance, and the 30-day review and comment of the National City Police Department's grant application in the amount of $31,110 from the 2013 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program to purchase a tactical robot and medical/first aid kits. PREPARED BY: Parris Bull, Police Sergeant DEPARTMENT: Police PHONE: (619) 336-4524 EXPLANATION: The Office of Justice Programs' (OJP) Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) at the U.S. Department of Justice announced that the City of National City is eligible for a grant award of $31,110 via the FY 2013 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program — Local Solicitation. The City is required to make the grant application available to the City Council and to citizens for the governing body and public's 30-day review and comment; a formal award will not be made until the 30-day review requirement has been met. The JAG Program provides States and units of local governments with critical funding necessary to support a range of program areas, including law enforcement, prosecution and court programs, prevention and education programs and etcetera. Applicants are required to complete an on-line application, and submit a budget and various narratives justifying the use of the funds. The National City Police Department proposes to use the funds to purchase an Avatar II Tactical Robot, Patrol Officer Response (medical) Kits and Shooting Range (medical) Kits.
