HomeMy WebLinkAboutExplanation - EnergyStaff Report on the Adoption of the 2013 California Building Standards Code
The California Health and Safety Code Section 17922 requires that each jurisdiction in
the state adopt the most recent edition of the California Building Standards Code within
180 days of publication. If it is not adopted by a jurisdiction it has the force of law 180
days after publication. A jurisdiction may propose amendments, additions and deletions
to those codes. When adopting the California Building Standards Code a jurisdiction may
establish more restrictive standards reasonably necessary based on climatic, geological
or topographical conditions.
This year the California Building Standards Commission published the 2013 California
Building Standards Code which is based on the 2012 International Building Code, 2012
International Residential Code, 2012 Uniform Plumbing Code, 2012 Uniform Mechanical
Code and the 2011 National Electrical Code, 2013 edition.
The National City Building Division recommends adoption of the 2013 California Energy
Code.
Upcoming actions will include a Public Hearing and Final Adoption of the Ordinances,
currently scheduled for the City Council Meeting on December 3, 2013.
