HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutionRESOLUTION NO. 2014 — RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A $10,000 GRANT AWARD FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT FROM THE OFFICE OF TRAFFIC SAFETY FOR THE AVOID DUI CAMPAIGN TO CONDUCT DUI RELATED ENFORCEMENT OPERATIONS AS PART OF A COUNTYWIDE REGIONAL TASK FORCE EFFORT, AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF OF POLICE TO EXECUTE ALL GRANT -RELATED DOCUMENTS, AND AUTHORIZING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF FUND APPROPRIATIONS AND A CORRESPONDING REVENUE BUDGET FOR REIMBURSEMENT OF OVERTIME COSTS FOR DUI OPERATIONS PRIOR TO THE GRANT DEADLINE OF SEPTEMBER 30, 2014 WHEREAS, on August 8, 2013, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department was awarded $300,000 in grant funds from the Office of Traffic Safety ("OTS") to administer and complete the objectives of the AVOID DUI Campaign in San Diego County; and WHEREAS, the grant was approved for a one-year period beginning October 1, 2013 through September 30, 2014; and WHEREAS, the award is based upon a grant proposal submitted by the Police Department to the OTS for the purpose of reducing the number of persons killed or injured in alcohol -involved traffic collisions; and WHEREAS, the National City Police Department was approved and allotted to receive $10,000 of these grant funds to assist with completing the objectives of the AVOID DUI Campaign; and WHEREAS, the grant funds will be used to fund overtime operations such as DUI saturation patrols, DUI/Driver's License Checkpoints, and other related alcohol enforcement operations. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of National City does hereby authorize the acceptance of a grant award in the amount of $10,000 from the Office of Traffic Safety ("OTS") to be used to fund overtime operations, such as DUI saturation patrols, DUI/Driver's License Checkpoints, and other related alcohol enforcement operations, as part of the AVOID DUI Campaign for the purpose of reducing the number of persons killed or injured in alcohol -involved collisions. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council hereby authorizes the Chief of Police to execute all grant related documents.
