HomeMy WebLinkAbout2004 CON Verizon - Mobile Communication ServicesNOTE TO FILE NO ORIGINAL SIGNED ✓ AGREEMENT/ CONTRACT ( N o CHANGE ORDER coQy OF CO1AtikACN Q,EGEvv�O) W AS WAS PROVIDED TO THE CITY CLERK'S OFFICE FOR THIS ITEM. ,UIS RESOLUTION NO. 2004 — 121 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NATIONAL CITY AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASING AGENT TO WAIVE THE BID PROCESS AND AWARD A CONTRACT FOR MOBILE COMMUNICATION SERVICES WITH VERIZON WIRELESS THROUGH MOBILE DATACOM WHEREAS, the mobile communication needs of the City are constantly evaluated; and WHEREAS, Verizon Wireless services available through Mobile DataCom provides the level of service that is most suitable for the City because it offers one of the biggest, most extensive service coverage areas, the price plan is very competitive with a larger minute pool and much lower overage minute cost, includes "in -network" calls, and will provide new LG VX3200 phones at no cost after a $50 rebate per phone; and WHEREAS, because the $50 rebate offer expires on June 30, 2004, a Letter of Intent was issued to Mobile DataCom, pending City Council approval, to take advantage of the rebate offer, which is a savings of approximately $2,500; and WHEREAS, it is in the City's best interest to waive the formal bid process pursuant to Section 12.60.220(D) of the National City Municipal Code, which allows the Purchasing Agent to dispense with the requirements of the bidding process when the City Council determines that due to special circumstances, it is to the City's best interest to purchase a commodity or enter into a contract without compliance with the bidding procedure. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of National City hereby finds that special circumstances exist and authorizes the Purchasing Agent to waive the bidding process, and awards the contract for mobile communications services to Verizon Wireless through Mobile DataCom. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of National City hereby authorizes the Mayor to execute on behalf of the City a contract between Mobile DataCom and the City of National City for mobile communications services. Said contract is on file in the office of the City Clerk. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 6th day of July, 2004.
