Change Order Number Five A-200 (9/80) RE: Resolution of the City Council of National City approving Change Order Number Five with California Commercial Pools, Inc. for the installation of a water slide for the new Activity Pool in the amount of $158,469 as part of the National City Municipal Swimming Pool Renovation Project and authorizing the City Engineer to execute the Change Order (Pool project is primarily being funded by State Parks Grant) The purpose of the Change Order Number Five is to include an installation of a water slide for the new activity pool into the existing Municipal Swimming Pools Renovation project. The installation of the water slide was originally included in the swimming pools renovation project contract. Due to the financial difficulties this work was excluded from the original contract. Now, with the proposition D passed on June 6th, the staff has recommended to include the water slide in the contract. Various state grant and local funds have been invested to make the municipal swimming pool facility up-to-date. With this additional feature the City's swimming pool facility will be compatible with the most of the advanced pool facilities in the region. A thicker concrete slab with the plumbing and electrical fixtures have been already installed under the water slide as a part of the original contract. The staff has negotiated the cost and schedule with the Contractor. The total cost to install the slide will be $158,469. The waiting time to deliver the slide will be thirteen weeks. The work will be completed within seventeen weeks. See attached contract change request (proposed costs and schedules) dated June 13, 2006 along with the specifications for the detailed information. Currently, the construction of the Swimming Pools Renovation has been completed and the Contractor is working on a few unfinished items to meet the facilities opening date. The minimum allowable water depth is 3 feet. A minimum clearance of 5 feel Is required On each aide of the flume terminus measured from the centerline of the Aurae section. B. For a single flume, a tending area of 10 feat wide by 20 het long 1s the minimum allowable. C. The slide exit height shalt be approximately 2 Inches above static water Willi. O. The bottom of the lanoline noel should be smooth and level for a distance of at east 18 feet out in front of the pool entry section. E. Tne landino area requires a hleh capacity exit with handrails. Part a — u.ea Y ODNSCOIRATIOIN FOR WATER SLIM[ OWNERS 5.0 1 Below are listed the safety considerations for water silos owners. A. All employees should be trained in the safe operation and usaoe of the water slide. This tralnino should be reviewed at regular fnrervrls throughout the operating season. B. Be sure that the slide rules are posted where the riders can read and understand them before using the water slide. C. Be sure that riders DO NOT ride the water slide headfirst. Headfirst riding can lead to submarining and contact with the pool bottom, which can cause spinal Injuries, paralysis, or death. D. The slide can only be used when supervised and with water flowing down the Hume sections. E. Do not allow users to come down the water slide steps, except in an emergency. (If the water slide is to be shut down during breaks, we recommend stopplrg riders at the bottom of the tower prior to the break and then allow the rider on the tower to ride down the slide thereby emptying the water slide by break time.) F. Isolate pump area under structure and lower flume areas from public oy use of a perimeter fence. Provide means of a positive '.ock off tne water slide structure. H, Shut water slide down during any maintenance time. I Be sure a documented emergency plan is available to all employees and they are aware of it. Record it with a local authority and the fire rescue service. '. Water slide shoud have an emergency shJtoff (provided pJrchase r/owner) easily Accessible to the slide operators. 1L 96/12/2ZaS 23:11 S?35-1530 a— '"'Y 5 FAX NO. :7702979633 Nov. 09 200S 09:46AM P14 FROM :L'SA SLIDE INC /'till USA Slide, :n: 1 1 RC A Vrnn^h Parlru•nv *4uig c;ainesvole, GA 30501 Phone: (770)297-155t F?4-(770)297-963 ""e: Free: 1 80C 872 7543 K.
