CIP No.: 19-43
Subject: Change Order No. 7
Change Order No. 7 provides for:
The additional 48.9 tons of %-inch rock for the rock bedding of the new 12-inch PVC sewer main.
Supporting Information:
During operations to install the new 12-inch PVC sewer main, the Contractor encountered unsuitable
subgrade throughout the entire span of the trench line within Sweetwater High School's ball field. The
existing 8-inch VCP Pipe had various sags and inconsistencies that allowed for the surrounding soils to
saturate over time. At this time Atlas Engineering West, the Soils Tech Engineering firm for this project,
analyzed the existing conditions and recommended to over -excavate and place 12-inches of %-inch rock
to stabilize and provide uniform support of the pipe to prevent sag. The additional 6-inches of rock
bedding will minimize future City maintenance.
Time Adjustment:
Zero (0) additional days are added to the contract time for the additional 48.9 tons of -inch rock.
Cost Adjustment:
The additional tonnage needed was captured under an agreed lump sum price. Attached is the
calculation breakdown and analysis for the additional 48.9 tons needed for the additional 6-inch rock
bedding. The total amount for this material is $989.99.

Details:
I arrived on -site for observation and testing of trench bedding and backfill.
(Site Meeting) I discussed with Higgy (Atlas Project Manager), Richard Tally (Inspector), the suitability of trench bottom. Trench had been
excavated approx. 21-22' depth. Soil is soft, loose, and wet ,and manually probes with easy effort. We agreed that 12" thickness of 3/4"
rock bedding (over -ex an additional 6") would be more suitable to stabilize and provide uniform support of the pipe to help prevent sag.
Referenced Special Provisions Section 306-7.1.1 and 306-7.7.1.
(Trench Backfill) I observed placement of 3/4" rock Bedding at 12" thickness across bottom of trench. Pipe was installed. 3/4" rock was
placed in pipe zone around haunches to 12" above top of pipe. Detectable tape was was installed.
Shoring shields being moved loose soil collapsed over pipe zone. I spoke to contractor, contractor will dig down and recompact trench
zone backfill.
Atlas scheduled to return tomorrow for observation and compaction testing of trench backfill.
I sampled soil from spoils stockpile and returned to lab for testing:
